I loved the Art-Deco style interior design so much. If you watch again and pay attention to the details of the hotel's appearance, I think you will agree with me.

It's so bizarre. The Westin Grand Hotel Berlin which was built in the 1990's has a circular atrium lobby JUST LIKE the set in Grand Hotel. On purpose maybe?

The doors to the hotel rooms were terrific.

Yes, the art-deco-angled veneers were beautiful.

Just started watching this again after many years, and am truly surprised that the film's sole Oscar nomination was for Best Picture - the art direction/set decoration and camera-work in the opening sequence alone are outstanding.

I'd need some convincing the style on show here is predominantly Art Deco, tho to be sure there are some influences.

Having said that, it is a wonderful film to look at.
