So good

There seem to be abundance of people calling the film boring so I just wanted to lighten this board with some praise.

Saw this for the first time just now and what a great film. Other films made around 1932 usually have some stiff acting, indiscernible audio, lack of music and etc. But this film is just beatufil and filled with memorable characters. Especially Barrymore's Baron. Everyone is so full of life. (Turns out I never seen any of actors in this film in action before, so a bit of a surprise). What a excuisite cinematography and sets, the chess floor of hotel, looks great on Blu-Ray. And Tchaikovsky as soundtrack. This film is just full of class.

Grand Hotel has always been recognized as one of the great movies of all time by those of discerning taste. If you would like to see another 1932 picture which has risen above the creakiness of early talkies with the criteria you stated (natural acting, snappy dialog, interesting characters, music, beautiful sets), try Night After Night (see my review). It is in a lighter vein, and of course not so grand, pun intended.
