Remake Please.....

I loved this movie! Christopher Eccleston would be a Great Dr Jekyll. Whom so you think?

Hugh Jackman.

Just imagine it.

I'm not sure that I'm on board with this new fashion for remakes, but in this case I have to agree that Chris would make a fab Jekyll/Hyde...But also (speciously, for your consideration) I offer up Ralph Fiennes, who is expert at conveying the duality within us all...

There have been several "remakes"...it's based on a book, so any other movie would not really be a remake, just another movie based on the same source material. the 1941 version is the most direct "remake" of this version. That said, I'd like to see a version set in contemporary times, I think that would be an interesting reinterpretation.

The truth is,they all stray pretty far from the source material.

John Hanna & Dougry Scott (Both Scottish) have played Dr. Jekyll.

Robbie Cultrane also provided the voice for Hyde in Van Helsing.

I has been recently remade as a mini-series starring James Nesbitt...and he was quite powerful in the role!

Of course, the plot was updated. But you might want to check it out.

Seeing how the highest rated of the movies is the original, why don't we just leave it alone?
Movies are an art form, I always wonder why people don't pay $10.00 to see a remake of the Mona Lisa for a few hours?
The brains in Hollywood are so bong resin encrusted that an original idea is now apparently impossible - so now some scream for classics to be remade into bilge.
If my only choice is going to be between the soon to be produced "Battleship" and a remake of "The Manchurian Candidate" I think I'll take the only wise course and read a book instead

But, this isn't the original! This is another version, following the one with John Barrymore and a string of other, earlier ones. So, you see, all remakes are not bad. Some are wonderfully successful, such as the Fredric March version. And, other remakes have their merits, too, including the Spencer Tracy one.

However, to be honest, I've watched the Tracy one a number of times, and it comes nowhere near this one for me. I especially don't "buy" Ingrid Bergman as Ivy, just as I don't believe her as the "party girl" in "Notorious". I'm a Bergman fan, but I didn't think these were quite right castingwise. As adaptable as Tracy was, his portrayal of Jekyll and Hyde isn't one I'd hurry to tune in for.

There have been and likely will be many film versions of the novel, as there are with so many classic stories. With luck, there will be some successes. However, isn't it amazing that a 1931 film remains outstanding, with a brilliant performance by the handsome, talented Fredric March? To me, he is one of the most overlooked actors of all time. Perhaps it's because he did more stage work than movies.

By the way, I'm watching this now on TCM. It remains my favorite version.

As for that miniseries: I have it on videotape. I was extremely impressed by it! I hoped the story would be continued, but it was not to be.

wow, I always thought this was the original! Thanks for the clarification!!

Bergman was perfect as the party girl in "Notorious".

Are you guys on crack? Re-Make please??
This story has been adapted so many times it's unreal, almost one every other year comes out. Everyone from Spencer Tracey to Tony Todd has taken a stab at Jekyll & Hyde.

reply

I remember a tv version with Jack Palance. It was not bad. J&H has been done probably dozens of times.

ACTUALLY............ KEVIN SPACEY!!!!!

He's really good at completely changing his facial expressions, both with subtlety and extremity!

I've seen him on talk shows doing impressions of other celebrities (i.e Christopher Walken LOL really funny btw!)

--- I am not sure if this guy could pull it off but perhaps JIM CARREY????

I think Hugh Jackman would be interesting --- however he'd have to be pretty remarkable to top his win for LES MISERABLES at the Golden Globes this year!!!!

If I'm not mistaken Nicolas Winding Refn is working one with Keanu reeves playing the title roles.
