I was trying to show this to my friends, but I can't find it anymore. I thought it was in the public domain, but every video I look up says it's copyright infringement. Anybody know what's going on?

ditto for such as Carnival of Souls, Night of the Living Dead (yes, it's public domain due to an editing error), Battleship Potemkin, Reefer Madness, etc.
Actually almost everything that is alleged to be in the public domain isn't really. Copyright laws keep retroactively protecting works that would have fallen in public domain. For instance, the link above is dead because the movie was removed.
But forget all that. Just download it with eMule. A vast film library is available for download on eMule.
