masterpiece masterpiece masterpiece

this is the most chilling movie ever... far above 'freaks' (which is... well... top of the art) and 'dracula' (which is at least worth a quotation in a history of the seventh art), both directed by the same tod browning... this one is shorter but how intense. Lon Chaney deserves to be the only actor out of the silent movies era to be reminded of, if there should be only one! this movie is absolutely incredible. Cruel!... How I love it!

You know I agree with you. In reviewing the film I really think it is Todd Browning's finest directorial effort. Lon Chaney is pitch perfect in his role as Alonso.

Lon Chaney was amazing! The movie finished 10 minutes ago and my stomach is still jumping!
Thanks, TCM. Won't be sleeping well tonight, but I saw a great movie!

Yes, sir, I'm going to do nothing like she's never been done before!

I saw it last night also, it is an amazing movie, the acting far exceeded anything you see today, (I know that's not saying much because todays actors are quite inferior). I started watching it because I wanted to see Joan Crawford who I did not realize had done silent movies (I pictured her as a superstar in the 30's and 40's) and after the first few minutes I found myself quite riveted by the story being told. It is the first silent movie I actually watched.

Welcome to the world of silents, missy70texas! You picked a dandy for your first one. I'm sure it won't be your last. Silents are totally addictive!
