We are watching the double DVD of this and The Sheik right now and just noticed that the version of the Son... is the re-released version (1937). There are obvious cuts where I am sure the Production Code went into affect thus shortening it too. Has anyone out there seen the original? What is different? Where did you get your copy? From what I've read, the 1937 re-release was toned down because of the movie Code and had cuts in the erotic love scenes between Valentino and Banky. I of course would like to see the original uncut version if one exists. Anyone know if one is available? I believe the Kino version is the '37, and I read about the cuts on that dvd on Amazon.com posted by one of the reviewers. The uncut must have been something, but I'm wondering if it still exists.
That's intriguing. I just watched the 68-minute Kino version that I got through Netflix. Nowhere on it does it say anything about it being a censored version, so I assumed I was watching the original.
Good luck finding THAT. The possibility that it still exists is next to impossible. We should just be grateful for all the silent films that we do have access to, because it is a miracle that they have survived at all.
