What was that striped hyena-like creature with the fluffy tail? Or, what was a hyena doing in Europe? Was there point to showing that creature? Was it Orlok?
No bats? Did the Count Dracula/Graf Orlok change into a mass of rats?
Also, why would he want to leave his perfectly creepy castle in Transylvania and live in a lousy "mansion" in downtown Urbania?

It was indeed a hyena they used for the movie. Its looks were much more scary and unnatural than those of a regular, common wolf, much more adequate to suggest a werewolf.
