Is Orlok (Nosferatu) considered a demon?
In your opinion, does Orlok (or vampires in general) count as a type of demon or evil spirit?

Supposedly the word nosferatu comes from either nesuferitu, meaning "repugnant one" or necuratu, meaning "unclean one." Neither word refers necessarily to vampire or someone who drinks blood, but rather more general terms like a demonic spirit. If that's really where nosferatu comes from, then that means it refers to less a physical monster so much as an idea or something like that.
The film Nosferatu certainly portrays Count Orlock less as a single monster like Count Dracula and more like a demonic spirit. He's referred to as the Bird of Death, the Great Plague of Wisborg, and I even believe the term "pestilence" is used a few times.
I'm also pretty sure that in the book Hutter finds in Transylvania, it begins by saying something like "From the seed of Belial arose Nosferatu," Belial referring to a demonic entity, who according to Wikipedia was a lieutenant of Satan. Perhaps Nosferatu was never really a count or even had a past life before becoming a vampire like Count Dracula, and Count Orlock is simply a name he adopted by the surrounding villagers and for legal purposes, like when purchasing a house in Wisborg.
However, it could be that the book was simply being abstract and that "Nosferatu" wasn't literally referring to one creature but rather any vampire in general, and that the Nosferatu in the film actually was a human named Count Orlock before becoming a vampire.
I don't necessarily think of Count Orlock as a demon, but he definitely has a more demonic presence than simply just being a vampire, and the film really pushes for the more spiritual aspects of vampirism.
Can't be too careful with all those weirdos running around.
No.
shareThe undead are often synonymous with "evil spirits", so to a certain extent, yes. I wouldn't go as far as to equal vampires with demons, however. Also, "demon" is a somewhat subjective term, although I suspect that you used it in a Christian context.
shareNo, he was Count Dracula. A long undead vampire.
sharepeople sometimes say space aliens may be demons, or were considered demons by the observers of ancient times.
i'd say demons are strictly something from hell, but how would we know what it is and where it came from unless it told us and, ofcourse, wasn't lying.
happy orloktober!
Yes, canonically vampires are undead creatures that sold their soul to the devil, which is why crosses and holy water work on them.
shareNever thought of Orlok/Dracula as a demon in the strictest sense of the word. He's a vampire (the baddest vampire of all).
