Horror?

I havn't seen any in this series yet. I am currently making list of all horror series.I was just wondering if you would really call this series horror or if it's more mystery thriller.

I have seen M so I'm not a total Lang newbie.

What are the best in the series.

Happiness is a warm gun...Lennon/McCartney
We're all gonna be just dirt in the ground....Tom Waits

Since I've only seen "Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler" and "The Testament of Dr. Mabuse" I don't know the entire "series". I would rather call Dr. Mabuse a thriller or action/crime story.

"A voice from behind me reminds me. Spread out your wings you are an angel."

I think the next one is much better; aside from Lang in general, and movies in particular, having become much more fluent in the intervening decade, there's the large issue of The Gambler being a take on the Weimar Republic, and the next more of a take on Nazism (though necessarily in a coded, subtle way). Reasonable parties may differ, but I find the rise of the Nazis more interesting. While Weimar had many problems and some few sexy aspects, all any artist can do with chaos and decadence is depict it; whereas the appeal of murderous strongmen can perhaps be explained, and it's important to try.

Also, not to pump the worth of topicality and political thought over aesthetics, but the next one goes more into Mabuse's pseudo-Nietzschean philosophy, and it sounds like any number of contemporary terrorists. Plus, after seing Testament, I am convinced that at least one point during the making of The Dark Knight, a phrase along the lines of "The new Joker will be more like Dr. Mabuse" was uttered.

The Testament of Dr. Mabuse is much better. Lang had turned into a better, clearer storyteller since the decade that separates the two movies, and what's amazing is that even though the movie already has spoken dialogue, he still relies a lot on visuals to drive the narrative. And then his use of sound is just breath-taking! You can see his enthusiasm over this new tool, finding all kinds of ways of using to enhance cinema. It's simply one of the best movies I've ever seen!

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.
