The version on TCM vs on the documentary DVD

I saw it on TCM about a month or 2 ago and loved it. I decided to buy the "Rudolph Vlentino The Great Lover Documentary" DVD that comes with this movie. When I watched it again on the DVD, it seemed like the movie on the DVD is much longer with a different musical score. I can't compare now since I don't have the TCM version around. I wonder if anyone find the same experience?

Yes, I had the same experience. Unfortunately the TCM version (with the Carl Davis score) is not available on DVD. It is available on Laserdisc, but I have not been able to find that either.

It's longer than the version on the documentary.

Carl Davis' score, some of which contains variations on Liszt, is brilliant; it's hard to imagine some of the more intense scenes having the same visceral impact with any other music, not to mention the omission of those low frequency rumbles scattered throughout. The purist in me often views silent films on mute (bit of a paradox), as I've long since concluded that no music is better than the wrong music. Then again, the purist in me doesn't seem to have a problem with the 132 minute cut vs the 156 minute cut, so what good is he?
