people who've seen the longer cut
i saw the 167 minute version, and loved it. is the 190 minute version better/worse? is the difference due to the frame rate?

shareWhat was the frame rate on yours? I know the DVD is the 197 minute version, that is the one I saw. I know the titles take up a ton of time, so of them, even if only one sentence, lasting onscreen for nearly 30 seconds.
shareI personally prefer the more complete edition. I *believe* the difference between the 167min. version and the 190 min. version is due only to difference in frame rate. However, there is a 123 minute version that was put out by Killiam Shows which is missing some footage but is still very watchable. If you're trying to find the film on DVD, my personal recommendation is the Image DVD, restored by David Shepard, which includes many bonus materials, and the complete print. It also features deleted scenes and an alternate take of the famous crane shot of the Babylonian Hall.
shareI saw a version that included still frames from deleted scenes. It was pretty cool. It was from the Museum of Modern Art. This was probably the longest version I ever saw, even though there was some naked slavegirl footage that was removed, and there were a couple other shots that were missing here and there.
shareI was lucky enough to see the restored version in 1995/6 when it was released onto about four screens nationwide, complete with symphonic accompaniment. It, too, had the stills. Is this the same version MoMA has?
It clocked in, with intermission, at 4-and-a-half hours.
I saw this print and noticed it still wasn't complete. There were scenes missing that had actually been in my old Blackhawk print of the film.
