i didn't think a silent film could be so powerful...

I did! And even though I definitely did not want to sit through a 3 hour long silent film (or any film for that matter), I thought it ended too soon. The professor cut it off at such a strange point...

reply

I did.

I was kinda annoyed with how many people left early. Because, a) a student should respect the course, and b) I don't think people were giving silent cinema a chance.

reply

I agree. I don't understand why people would take a class entitled The History of Motion Pictures where in the class description it says that movies from the late 1800s and on are going to be discussed, and then leave because we're watching a silent film. I mean I'm not thrilled with watching most silent films, but I still appreciate them for what they are.

seriously, i don't know what the point is of coming if you are going to leave...the guy next to me must have looked at his cell phone 75 times during the movie.

you have to start at the beginning and get a foundation of where film came from if you intend on doing something in the field

i did my time in black&white photography classes even though 35mm has been dead for years...it sucked (well not really) spending 8 hours in the darkroom to produce 4-8 good prints. i did it to get a background and a better understanding of photography and surprizingly i wansn't the only one in thre class who had been shooting digital at a semi-professional level(as in getting paid for work, not necessarily skill level as i am nowhere near that).

i think alot of people might be taking this class for an easy A and a filler class...

reply

I'm pretty sure that most people are taking it as a filler class. The same thing happened in my Cinema Survey class with people leaving after the lectures and during the movies.

I was in that class. I liked the firtst movie alot. I sat trough this entire movie but I was lost the entire time. I found it difficult to figure out what was going on. Would anyone please help me understand what happened in this movie.

reply

Hi, could anyone tell me about the construction of the film? The narration. editing, shots, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards
