What happens to The Friendless One? (spoilers)

After she admits she killed the musketeer, the boy is saved from his sentence and the movie ends. Is there any clue what happens to her?
I think the possibility that she was to be hanged instead of the boy makes the happy-ending only half happy.

I don't think they would have hung a women (back then) for a crime of passion.

They executed women back then for murder, but not often. Martha Place was the first woman to be executed in the electric chair at Sing Sing Prison in 1899.
