Remake

So who would you cast in a remake and who would you want to see direct it?

Would have to be shirtless this time around. Those guys looked pretty built, would have been nice.

And get rid of those icky mustaches.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

What? The mustaches are what make the film work. Without them, they're just a bunch of blacksmiths, big whoop.

The mustaches could be updated, to the modern-day "manly man" mustaches of the '70s and '80s. Tom Selleck might be too old, but he would be great as the lead blacksmith. Perhaps coming out of retirement to teach a new rag-tag group of up-and-coming blacksmiths the tricks of the trade.

Of course any good remake would have to have new scenes to spice up the 116-year-old script. You could have Marlon Wayans join the cast for some hip-hop gangsta humor. Maybe a nice female love interest (Amanda Peet?) joins the blacksmith crew, and some sexual tension is thrown into the midst. Of course, Tom Selleck's character would balk at the idea of a female blacksmith, but he needs to stick to the times.

One of the star blacksmiths (perhaps played by Timothy Olyphant) could get injured halfway through the film, causing some drama as the entire crew has to band together to beat the sinister team of Burt Reynolds (Selleck's old nemesis) in the upcoming blacksmith competition.

After an inspirational speech by Selleck, Wayans and Peet down a couple beers and get their act together. Reynolds' team is defeated in an upset and fun is had by all.

Directed by oh, I guess Richard Linklater.

I'm totally dying laughing at this thread.

Why do people always want to remake the classics? This film is perfect and got it right the first time around.

Though, I have to admit, Ian McShane would be great as the lead blacksmith.
