The cult of science?

Candace Owens: “I'm not a flat earther. I'm not a round earther. Actually, what I am is I am somebody who has left the cult of science.”

I'm not a flat-earther. I'm not a round-earther. Actually, what I am is I am somebody who has left the cult of science. I have left the megachurch of science because what I have now realized is that science, what it is actually, if you think about it, is a pagan faith.

Just more stupidity from Owens.

Science - Any system of knowledge that is concerned with the physical world and its phenomena and that entails unbiased observations and systematic experimentation.

Cult - A group requiring unwavering devotion to a set of beliefs and practices which are considered deviant outside the norms of society, which is typically led by a charismatic and self-appointed leader who tightly controls its members.

There is no cult of science. A cult of science is like claiming there is dry water or cold fire. Unbiased observations cannot exist within unwavering devotion to a set of beliefs.

reply

How many times u been jabbed? That's a cult of 'science'.
Science in its purest form is legit - what you have now is cultist pretending to be scientists - and guess what, their best buds own most of the medical and scientific journals, so you can't even publish legit science anymore - it's all a narrative now.

I've had many vaccinations over the last +40 years. So what? You think vaccines are not effective against polio, chickenpox, measles, etc?

reply

Yes, tell us.

How many Covid-19 shots have you had?

If it's less than eight, we might think you're anti-science.

reply

I'm asking your opinion of vaccines in general. Demanding an answer from me instead is a chickensh*t response. Why not man up and show the forum you have a spine?

One covid vaccine. Why is the science of avoiding an infection and a single vaccine not good enough for you?

reply

According to the science, you need more than one - the J&J shot is a dud.

Why do you hate science so much?

Get your boosters and save granny. Or something.

reply

Then show me your science.

reply

You don't know how long the shot lasts?

Wow, you injected something without knowing how it works.

Yikes.

reply

While I do tend to think Candace is an idiot, the way to prove it isn't by conflating the scientific "community" with the scientific method. There is no such thing as an unbiased observation. Our eyes see by having particles of light hitting them. Our ears hear by waves of vibrations hitting them. Anything we sense is a product of interpretation by our brains, not the "real" reality. Scientists today are fond of saying that "time" itself can bend. Does that mean time works differently in high gravity? No, it just means movement behaves differently, and time is simply a measurement of movement. Assuming time is bending is on the same level as assuming the earth is bending. Why can't it instead be space that is bending, giving the illusion of a rounded earth? What if we're like Pac Man, and when we go off the edge of the earth we come right back in the other side? How could we disprove such a notion and be unbiased about it?

reply

Owens is trying to convince people that she is an idiot. Why else would she claim that there is nothing that convince we ever went to the moon? No evidence at all, she just up and decided that we did not go, and that no one can ever tell her differently.

That is the most stupid way to express an opinion, almost no matter what it is

reply

From what I gathered, not all of the photos they provided was the genuine moon landing, there were practice sessions in a studio setting that got mixed in or misconstrued, so people would see photos with a ceiling in the background, or a reflection of someone not wearing a suit. I can understand why they might jump to conclusions.

I used to love conspiracy theories, but then they started to not appear in Youtube searches anymore... I was pretty bummed about it, but now I can go to Rumble for all my conspiracy theory needs. Might have to check out some "moon landing hoax" videos.

reply

Exactly which photos are you referring to? Sure, there are lots of photos from training. But is there a single photo of Apollo training that has been passed off, by NASA, as a photo taken from the lunar surface?

If a person is linking to a photo and fails to provide a catalog number or link to an unmodified photo, then they are being deceptive.

Here are some links to the lunar surface photo taken by Apollo. https://www.nasa.gov/history/alsj/ https://www.lpi.usra.edu/resources/apollo/catalog/70mm/

Ever single Apollo hoax video or website I have ever seen was extremely naive at best, or outright lies at worst.

Bart Sibrel's video "a funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon" was one of the stupidest hoax videos I ever watched. I made my own video in response to it here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxpweYalUd4

On my last phone, I had the sound of Buzz punching out Bart as my ringtone..

reply

I liked that video. https://repo.library.stonybrook.edu/xmlui/handle/11401/8438

You're a coward, and a liar and a umph!

reply

I guess you weren't on Earth during the pandemic.

reply

Sure I was. Why does a bot like you care?

reply

And you didn't see things done in the name of science that had nothing to do with science?

reply

Yes, there is a "cult of science". It's also referred to as "scientism". Science has limits as to what it can speak to, but for those engaged in scientism, science goes beyond the domain of science. I can't speak for Candace Owens, but I believe she was at least in part talking about these believers of scientism.

reply

What does scientism have to do with her refusal to accept that there is any evidence at all for the moon landings? Just dismissing evidence that can change your view of the world is stupid.

reply

I wasn't speaking about any specific item she agrees or disagrees with. I was referring to the valid critique of scientism in general.

reply

You have referred to scientism and the cult of science, but you have not actually defined the terms.

reply

You made a descriptive statement. I don't know how I'm supposed to respond.

reply

It should be simple. Define and explain the terms "scientism" and "cult of science". Or you can let others define how you use the words. It is like you're using the slang version of the word "woke", but without revealing which definition you are using.

Scientism is listed in Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientism
But I think the word is being used by Owens apologists to cover for her foolish claims about refusing to believe something despite there being evidence to support it and declaring that nothing can change her mind about a historical event.

reply

I'll let my statement stand on its own. If you want to look up definitions on your own, you can.

reply

Your statement is both self serving and ignorant. Good luck with that frame of mind.

reply

You are entitled to have whatever opinion you would like. Cheers.
