I speak 3 languages fluently and understand a couple more.

I'm an atheist, but as an atheist I still *know* that the whole "the universe popped out of nothingness" is just as silly and laughable as Ben's bearded sky genie.
The fact is is that none of us knows, and frankly it gnaws at me that there should be nothing - no universe and no bearded sky genie but here we are.
The only thing I am certain of in this whole debate is that anyone who proclaims they are somehow mentally superior to those who believe in something they don't is not only ignorant, but willfully so.

Somebody (Hindus?) say that we only achieve complete consciousness upon our deaths. Maybe the answers are actually incredibly simple but we are not allowed to know.

The only thing I am certain of in this whole debate is that anyone who proclaims they are somehow mentally superior to those who believe in something they don't is not only ignorant, but willfully so.
Not only that, but the willfully ignorant also feel this overriding and powerful twisted compulsion to publicly and arrogantly berate, vilify, castigate, laughingly mock, and denigrate those who do "believe in something."
Whereas, those who do "believe in something" don't engage in such infantile behavior.

Not *exactly* sure of your question, but my observation over 65 years is that (within the context of this particular thread), neither the religious nor the atheists are any better than the other when it comes to berating the other side.
I'm atheist, but I will NEVER mock or even debate a "believer" because the fact is is that I simply don't have the answers. But I do know that my beliefs are no less ridiculous than theirs.

It's a totally different type of vitriol - it's far more polished and passive/aggressive but no less insulting.
I made the mistake on a youtube comment of saying that the two sides of the abortion debate was not binary between the religious and the atheists. Boy did that open a pile of shit. Dozens of the religious said only the religious could be moral enough to fall on the anti-abortion side (which I most certainly am). They were actually insulted that an atheist could be so anti-abortion as me.
No, none of them used obscenities but their point was that as one of the believers, they were morally superior to me and that any morality I possessed came from their sky daddy even if I didn't realize it.
Those who believe that having your dick amputated and putting on a dress makes you a woman just because you have done some semantical and ideological gymnastics, are not only ignorant, but willfully so, not to mention mentally ill. To pretend not to be mentally superior to them would be absurdly false modesty.

Pretty much every motivational speaker, coach, politician, athlete in America are spiritual Christians. Natives Americans were religious.
The only inspiring atheist I can think of is Carl Sagan, and he wasn’t an outspoken atheist when he was inspiring. Only in his later years when he opted for politics over science.
When people are hanging onto the side of a cliff they aren’t praying to atheism.
