... Bothered me much that she was really unattractive.. In a major flick like this, how can you afford to have a major character so bland in all departments.. Acting, looks, intensity, etc..
After princess Leia this is a such a disappointing generational handover... Anyone else thinks the same way?...
Fisher is a lot more charming and charismatic, but as far as subjective beauty and features, Ridley wins. Fisher would be a lot more fun to hang out with, though.
She's not certainly not ugly at all. She has somewhat of a superficially "pretty" face I guess but somehow at the same time "alluring", "beautiful" or "sexy" are descriptions I would never describe her as. Everything about her, from her looks, personality & accent are just so very generic. She's like a real life stock character.
She's not supposed to be sexy, she's supposed to be a Jedi! You're not supposed to think about Jedi that way!!! JEDI aren't supposed to think about Jedi that way!
Seriously, she wasn't cast because she was beautiful or sexy, she was cast because she's extremely likeable. She's one of those characters that everyone (everyone sane, anyway) liked immediately, and they wanted the best for her and identified with her and kept liking her even when she was being an idiot. I really liked her throughout, even when things got silly towards the end.
Er em.. She doesn't have to be 'sexy' but at least she could have some redeeming attractive qualities to herself.. This is a female lead role in arguably the biggest movie franchise..
If you think Daisy Ridley isn't attractive enough to deserve your attention... well, I have to assume you don't understand why you can't get a girlfriend.
Hahaha Nice!.. Why do you have to assume that?.. I have to find her attractive to get a gf?.. I get no credit for finding Carrie more attractive than her.. I seem to be doomed :D
Comparable how?.. Carrie had a nation fixated and fantasizing about her in a way that is far above what Daisy could ever achieve.... Her character was iconic, relevant and feminine.. Attractive in a way which celebrated her sexiness.... None of that is seen in this latest version of 'bland' Rey... And this is the main character!...
Carrie also had the advantage of coming into the films without any expectations or previous characters to be compared to, and in an age where every random schmuck didn't an instant avenue to broadcast their hate for her globally.
At the end of the day and as iconic as the Leia character became, it's still a slightly wooden and unremarkable performance from Fisher. I suspect the Star Wars legend would have been as strong had any other actress been cast in that role.
Not that I want to pile hate on Carrie, I liked and respected her. I just don't think we should judge Ridley's performance based on sentimental nostalgia for Fisher.
Fair point... Sentimental nostalgia might be overwhelmingly in favor of Carrie.. And sad that Daisy associated with the most underwhelming trilogy of the series.. doing her no favors...
Except that Daisy is part of the reason the current trilogy is underwhelming since she is so bland. That said it didn´t help that her character was terribly written so she can´t take all the blame.
I think she looks dynamite IRL. I think she absorbs the hate from the quality of these SW movies. Too bad. Seems nice, looks good, and has mind-control level legs.
