Loved her in Episode VII
I remember from previous trilogy how every media screamed during the release that N. Portman and Hayden Christensen were - "incredibly" - cast as leads from, I think, 50 000 other candidates of the whole wide world.
Now, I have to admit I did like their three films in SW franchise but I just can't say that these two really deserved the roles. Amidala gets interesting only in Revenge of the Sith where Anakin goes dark and she dies for some reason.
Him and her didn't do anything special on camera, but looking good. Even Portman's later roles didn't impress me too much. She'll always be Amidala, it's her most prominent role, she can try to fight it as much as she wants.
After I saw Daisy Ridley's casting tape I still can't understand what drove producers' decision. It doesn't seem like "really special talent" ...
For me it's probably some incredible streak of luck, I got an impression anybody could do what she does in front of camera. With a proper production team behind them.
J. Boyega is even worse, whenever I see him on screen with his "I got cast for a reason and I am here to do some real good acting now" I just want to turn off the film ...
I don't want to be a hater or something, I liked the movie a lot, it's just how this incredible thing happens to some average millennial of 23-24 years is something that really doesn't cease to amaze me.
