daisy ridley is getting many projects!!

Despite daisy leaving instagram which is sad! I think she's been leaving it temporary for the better that she is now concentrating on her workS that coming non-stop. Beside tiny films call Star wars ep8 &9 She starting to get so many projects coming and with the majority of notable directors based on an announcements ; kolma, chaos walking, ophelia, the lost wife , murder on the orient express, star wars ep8-9 and rumoured- the American rebel. do you think her line up projects are pretty impressive after SW? its not even a year after SW CAME OUT. I bet 2018 will be her year thou considering star war in December and four of her movies in 2018 line up . how many more to come that it has not been announce yet?. I bet she will be even more iconic and important character in SW8 -9 than 7 as well. in next year or two it will be daisy golden years. but as it seems great so far do you think daisy will able to maintain her successful career or fall short. I think the answer is based on her performances outside SW. im so looking forward to see her in others movie.

Even if she turns in a great performance, if the the box office flops, she won't get many star leading vehicles. Hollywood is less forgiving of women. That's why there are only a handful of women who have box office power compared to the men. I would love to see Daisy succeed outside of Star Wars. We haven't had a foreigner take the box office reign as the female champ in a long time. It has mainly been dominated by Americans. From Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Jolie, Jlaw to Melissa McCarthy. Who was the last foreigner to open films successfully - Julia Andrews?

reply

I think non-American actresses such as Margot Robbie, Emily Blunt, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Cate Blancett and quite a few more also dominate the BO films. There's a chance for Daisy, just look at how Margot Robbie came out of nowhere and now she's doing my extremely well for herself.

reply

None of those women you have listed are considered a bona fide box office star. It's about opening a film single handily without a franchise or a big male co-star to aide you. Margot is currently a hot commodity but hasn't proven herself that she's able to carry a film alone yet. Blunt, Kidman, Blanchett, and Watts - great actresses but I can't think of films that they have opened alone.

Roberts- My best friends Wedding, Sleeping with the Enemy, etc.
Bullock - while you were Sleeping, Time to Kill, etc
Jolie - Tomb Raider, Wanted, etc.
McCarthy - Most of her comedies do well
JLaw - Oops, no major hits outside of franchises or big name male costars that I can think of, but somehow she's the current highest paid female of the past two years.

Daisy began so well. A great performance in a fantastic movie and a huge box office. And we can say. A good part of people saw SW8 twice or three times, because she was there. Daisy is phenomenal.

Sounds good the next projects for her.
I agree with you pallasbrebrenna.
There are no great box offices today out the franchises.

Look at box office 2016 until now:
1 Captain America
2 Zootopia
3 Finding Dory
4 The Jungle Book
5 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
6 The Secret Life of Pets
7 Deadpool
8 Suicide Squad
9 The Mermaid
10 X-Men: Apocalypse Fox

Actores and actresses can help the box office, but they need good script, good director. Leonardo Di Caprio knows choose good roles in great movies.

Roberts, Bullock and Jolie - good actresses, but the movies are not great, except August: Osage County, Gravity and Changeling

McCarthy - good actress in bad movies
JLaw - good actress in bad movies

Many non-American actresses have "single handily" opened up non-franchise films.

Kidman - Rabbit Hole, Stoker, Australia, The Golden Compass, Birth, The Others

Watts - King Kong, The Impossible, Mulholland Drive, The Ring, Fair Game, Funny Games, Tank Girl

Theron - Prometheus, Dark Places, Young Adult, The Burning Plain, Monster

Knightley - Anna Karenina, Never Let Me Go, A Dangerous Method, The Duchess, Atonement, Pride & Prejudice, Bend It Like Beckham

Mulligan - Suffragette, Never Let Me Go, Far From The Madding Crowd

And of course there's others such as Audrey Hepburn, Kate Beckinsale, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Kate Winslet, Rosamund Pike and Natalie Portman.

Also Margot has proven she can carry a film by herself in "Z For Zachariah". Plus she's got many upcoming roles as the lead role.

You need to look at boxofficemojo and see all those movies you've listed aren't even in the top 100. Theron's Prometheus is part of the Alien franchise and Monster was critically acclaimed but not a big box office smash. Watts no, Knightley no, just no to those actresses you've listed. Hepburn yes though, I've forgotten about her.

My point is if these foreign actresses are such bona fide box office stars to you, why are they not commanding the $$$ like the American girls I've listed? Perhaps they need better agents.

Back to Daisy, as I've said before, Star Wars has put her on the map. If she can pull in Ophelia, Kolma, Chaos Walking with big numbers, she can take the reign away from the American girls.

I think you'll find it's unlikely non-franchise films gross tons of money. It's hard to judge whose the better actress at earning profit without looking at the franchises they've been in. Some sites say Emma Watson has biggest BO power, but she hasn't been a lead in anything else that's noteworthy, aside from The Bling Ring.

As I said, many of the non-American actresses I named have been the lead in successful films and many of those films have made a good profit. All I'm saying is it's not only Americans that dominate films.

King Kong:
Budget: $207m
Gross: $550m = Profit

Blue Jasmine:
Budget: $18m
Gross: $97m = Profit

Moulin Rogue:
Budget: $50m
Gross: $179m = Profit

Pride & Prejudice:
Budget: $28m
Gross: $114m = Profit

The Reader:
Budget: $32m
Gross: $108m = Profit

V For Vendetta:
Budget: $54m
Gross: $132 = Profit

Amelie:
Budget: $10m
Gross: $173m = Profit

Pan's Labyringth:
Budget: $19m
Gross: $83m = Profit

Gone Girl:
Budget: $61m
Gross: $365m = Profit

Cinderella:
Budget: $95m
Gross: $542m = Profit

Brave:
Budget: $185m
Gross: $531m = Profit

JLaw, although hasn't done many projects outside of Hunger Games and X-Men, you could argue it's a result of those franchise films that she's now one of the highest paid actresses and has been cast in other films - three of which JLaw has been Oscar nominated for. Could happen for Daisy as well? Same thing happened for Emma Watson as a result of Harry Potter as well.

Theron's Prometheus is part of the Alien franchise

And Jolie's Tomb Raider is also a franchise.. 

Hepburn yes though,

I think you need to get with the times. I mean Audrey Hepburn and Julie Andrews? There's been tons of non-American successful actresses since then.

reply

You do realize that whatever the film's gross, the studio gets less than half of the profit. So, $550 for King Kong is only 275, subtract that with the 207 budget + whatever marketing cost and I've got Kong at not even making a great profit that was worth the months of filming.

If I listed Tomb Raider, my bad but Jolie has more hits outside of franchises alone with Salt and Wanted.

I'm merely pulling stuff from recollection and it just appears that the American girls have consistently been awarded the highest paid actresses from Forbes and I don't recall any foreigners taking the top spot since the 90's.
