Uhtred of Bebbanburg

So, haven't seen this anywhere, so this seems the most fitting page:
Alexander Dreymon has been picked as the main actor - playing the role of Uhtred of Bebbanburg - for the BBC historical drama about the Daneslaw and the fight of Alfred the Great against the Viking invasion in the 9th century.

This is based on a series of books written by Bernhard Cornwell. For those who remember: it's the same author that brought fame to Sean Bean with the Sharpe Series about the Napoleonic Wars.

This guy is way too pretty for Uhtred.

Just found out today.
I haven't seen him in anything so can't really offer an opinion about him.
I guess they are starting the series with Uhtred as an adult, which I think is kind of a shame as Uhtred's childhood is pretty amazing.
Fingers crossed it's a good series.

It's the harbour towns that the grey metal ships call home.

Well, the cast looks pretty cool. I particularly like Rutger Hauer in there, probably as one of the Danes.

I hope it's a production up to par with history channel's vikings. Especially since some plotlines in vikings feel borrowed from the last kingdom.

I would hate that! There is no way they would do it, has Ragnar The Fearless been cast? Because if so it would mean we will see Uhtred childhood. Not only it is an amazing part of his life, it's vital to understand who he is.

From what I´ve read they first season will be the first book.
But the casting of Alexander Dreymon is a odd choice given he is to old for young Uthred of Book 1 even if they skip his childhood with Ragnar.

reply

Tom Taylor is the one that is going to play young uthred

Agreed, John T!

I have read all of Cornwell's books on Uhtred and this actor is as far removed from how I imagined Uhtred as is possible. Should I even watch this series?

I am from Edinburgh (formerly part, Dun Eidyn, of the old kingdom of Northumbria) and know Bamburgh and that stunning and rugged coastline well.
