Horrible Accent on Bones!

How often does Hollywood get the Southern accent right though? I agree. It's painful to listen to it. But someone needs to get him a better dialect coach. But I'm guessing the network doesn't care enough

I actually thought it was a pretty good southern accent. I grew up in Alabama, and have heard lots of different southern accents. He did a pretty good country, or hilbilly, accent aside from maybe a word or 2 here and there. I guess how you feel about southern accents probably depends on what you have heard. My Mom thinks Kyra Sedgwick does a great southern accent. I think it is terrible, and have never heard a southern accent like that. I'm guessing my Mom has, so perhaps an upper crust woman in Atlanta might sound like that. I've seen a person's social class make a difference in their southern accent too. For example, someone who comes from a fairly wealthy family would probably have a different accent from someone they went to school with from the same area.

I agree. Being Australian, I've never heard an actual American southern accent, but I do agree his accent on Bones is quite grating to hear. Some words he says even sound Australian, which is saying something (coming from one).

I live in Alabama & I thought it sounded pretty good. I work with a bunch of rednecks & they sound just like that lol. I looked him up expecting him to be from the South.

My first time on this site. I looked Finn up after seeing him on another show: Person of Interest - wanted to be sure it was the same guy. I love him on BONES, especialy the fun and colorful way he describes things. I was born and raised in Los Angeles so not sure but it sounds Southern to me. Is he still going out with Cam's daughter, Michelle?

Have you even been to the south? Or are you just one of those people who looks down on people with southern accents. His accent is pretty damn good actually.

I have to agree with the OP here. I think ot's terrible. He's got the vernacular and colloaquialisms down, but his "accent" disappears from time to time, and it sounds so fake. I specifically logged on to see where he was from, and to see if anyone else on here agreed. Didn't surprise me that there was already a post about it.

I know this post is quite old, but I'm curious, how many of you actually live in the south? I find it hard to believe that you would think his accent is bad if you lived down here. I've lived in the south my entire life. Born in Texas, lived in Alabama, and been living in Georgia for close to 15 years now. His accent is pretty good if you ask me. There are all kinds of southern accents. Not every southern accent sounds exactly the same. Just depends on where what part of the south you live in really. At any rate, he does a good southern accent, which in my opinion is saying a lot because Hollywood doesn't really get southern accents down too well.
