It took me forever to realize her name was pronounced Margo not Margaret.

It's sort of all the same thing. Margot is form of Margaret is a form of Margarite and back even farther.

I went to school with a Margot so I never even thought about it.

All three are similar, but have different pronunciations.

Nope. But there are some other names I have problems with - I guess it's down to familiarity and sometimes, at least for me, confusing spelling.

Yeah, 'cause Margot looks exactly like it would be pronounced Margaret. For the longest time I thought John was pronounced Jimmy.

For the longest time I thought Anna Kendrick was pronounced Annette. LOL
