Bombshell - Flop
I, Tonya - Flop
Birds Of Prey - Flop
Upcoming female Pirates of The Carribean - Come on, we know this will be a flop
She's a great co-star and supplementary act, she's NOT the leading star. She can be the leading lady, but she needs a bigger name or better actor alongside her to really bring in the numbers.
She is just the new Jennifer Lawrence. The current Hollywood it girl that is all hype and no substance. Like Jennifer her movies flop. Her time as the it girl will pass soon.
So to you, she deserves the unoriginal “overrated” title because filmmakers+the studios are impressed by her and she’s had one or two movies she lead flop? (Bombshell btw was basically an ensemble piece with very big names in it, and while it barely made more than its production budget, it still earned more than its production budget and had big names in it.) That’s the issue here, right? Because this actually has nothing to do with her reputation as a respected actress it seems (her A+ talents and status as a sex symbol). This is *sorta* different for an overrated post, I’ll give you that.
But funny, she’s already been the leading lady - and has done a fantastic job doing so. ’Matter of fact, she received a well-deserved Oscar nom for one of those “flops” she lead — an acclaimed indie flick that earned quite a bit more than its production budget. Flop? You tell yourself that. And her future Pirates film is guaranteed to flop? Not unlikely, but we’ll check back in a few years, detractor.
Some bogus criticism up in here if I do say so myself. (This is typical with broken record “this actor is overrated” posts, of course.) Well, complain about her as you please; the appropriately-rated Margot Robbie will still continue to deservingly receive big offers. No, she isn’t the best thing out there, albeit like a ton of so-called overrated actors who made it and are in high demand, she has IT.
Well Dractarashv2 proved your simple statistics to be wrong. As did a few others in this topic. She's far from the best thing in Hollywood, but her luck with film isn't as bad as you're trying to make it out to be either.
Proved them wrong how? My stats are factual. Pointing out that people within the industry think highly of her is not an argument, because it's based in opinion; the numbers I provided all point to her not being a box office draw on her own (not a significant one anyway; her drawing power is miniscule at best without a bigger star to carry the movie.)
She is just the current hot Hollywood Bombshell. As soon as another hot young girl pops up Margot will decline just as Jennifer Lawrance has done. Margot is nothing special and is a mediocre actress. All she has are her looks.
I, Tonya cost $11 million to make and the box office was $53.9 million. Not many independent movies do that well and I would argue that it was word-of-mouth about Margot's performance that accounted for the decent return.
Box office aside, if you think she can't carry a film I would suggest watching Z For Zacharia. She owns every single frame she's in, it's a mighty performance. To me it shows she certainly has the chops to be a leading lady, I think she just needs the right film and director and she could do anything.
Then again I wouldn't necessarily judge an actor's worthiness on their ability to "bring in the numbers". Are people like Paul Giamatti, John Lithgow, Robin Wright, Eva Green etc "overrated as hell" just because they are not major box office drawcards? Do you think there's a place for great actors in film, even if they are not Tom Cruise level box office attractions? I certainly do.
She is eye candy nothing more. They throw her in a movie because she has nice tits and has no problem jiggling in any scene they need her to jiggle in. But she can't act for shit. Now that she's started squirting out rug rat the reality is her looks are going to start dropping and she'll fade away into obscurity... though not before she stars in a few more major league flops.
