casted as cleopatra

for new cleopatra film.

angelina jolie was once considered for the role.

reply

Gadot is not a bad choice.

reply

Cast!

Not fucking casted!

reply

i did that on purpose

reply

your'e too violent, it's all that sugar you're eating, all that junk food you're swallowing, try a prune, something natural, try fish, fish and rice.

reply

I bet the film will be crap but she'll sure look gorgeous as Cleopatra.

reply

Eh, not necessarily. The story of Cleopatra is pretty great and, I think, kind of idiot-proof as long as those involved have at least minimum level of professional ability. And from what I've read, Patty Jenkins is supposedly going to direct and they worked very well together for Wonder Woman, so it is sounding like this thing may be in good hands.

I'm actually surprised we don't have more Cleopatra movies. I still like the Liz Taylor film.

reply

Budget probably, I like both Taylor and Leigh in the role but can’t think of many memorable portrayals since, it really depends on the script and casting if this new movie will be any good, so many promising movies get messed up one way or another.

Gal Gadot is pretty enough but I've never seen her in anything other than action roles.

reply

Looking over her filmography, I guess you're right that most of what she's done has been action-oriented. Everything that I have seen her in would qualify as an action film. That's a little odd, actually, for a female performer.

It does seem like, performance-wise, it could go either way with her in terms of portraying Cleopatra.

reply

Laeta Kalogridis (Screenwriter) worries me a little, she's very hit and miss, previous work as a writer includes Shutter Island, Alita: Battle Angel, Terminator Genisys & Alexander.

reply

Agree completely.

reply

She might actually be too good looking. Gal Gadot is gorgeous, while historical evidence suggests that Cleopatra, while unattractive, was not really a great beauty. What she seems to have been endowed with was was personality and charisma, and that, rather than looks alone, is what made her able to seduce Caesar and Mark Antony.

reply

Well, if you want a Cleopatra whose intelligence and political acumen attract men like Caesar and Antony, youll need to cast someone a bit more adept at the language the film is being shot in.

But dream on, Hollywood doesn't understand that men, or audiences, might be attracted to a woman because she's charismatic and brilliant rather than beautiful. Nobody in the film production office could conceive of anyone being attracted to an intelligent woman with her original nose!

Whitewashed and colorism strike again.

Whitewashed and colorism strike again.

Cleopatra was a mix of Macedonian Greek and Ancient Egyptian. Greeks back then were quite similar to modern Center-European, blondes and red-hairs were common.

Since Ancient Egyptians are extinct (they were replaced by Arabs), the best option is to cast a white actress or a Jew one.

reply

Aren’t Copts descendants of Ancient Egyptians? Not many of them left however.

reply

They have Ancient Egyptians' blood, but very diluted.

reply

Gal Gadot isn't white, soooooo......

reply

I might watch it if it showed enough cleavage. A movie for back then wouldn't have outfits to show her fine backside in.

reply

Great Choice.
