Billy Dee Williams: "Leave [Lando] alone!"

Perhaps a bit sour that he isn't in the new Star Wars movies yet, Billy Dee Williams had this to say when the Huffington Post brought up the idea of Donald Glover (or anyone else) playing a young Lando in the Han Solo film:

"I don’t know who Donald Glover is. But as far as I’m concerned, I would say they [”Star Wars” producers] should leave that character alone. I don’t think you can do any more than what I did with that character. I think I made that character into something very special, and I can’t imagine anybody else doing it, to be very frank with you."

Chill out and have a Colt 45 Billy!

I can't say this guy is all wrong for the part, because who knows what kind of script they are writing for this thing. It could be Star Wars with Facebook-era dialogue, with lines like "I know, right?" and "that awkward moment when..." kind of stuff. Donald Glover fit the goofy "Community," sometimes anyway, but this seems off.

Billy Dee is a vain narcissist, which unlike his fellow Hollywood homos, has no problem expressing it.

I think the only issue I have with this casting is that Donald Glover is in his mid thirties. When Billy Dee played Lando, he was in his early and mid forties. That isn't really a significant age gap to play the "young" version of the character.

reply

Yeah but I think he'll at least "look" young enough

In my opinion, Donald looks way younger than he actually is, so it should work. I mean, we still get people in their twenties playing high school kids.
