I just have somethings to say about the black Spider-man issue

Before you start hating me and calling me racist hear what I have to say first.

To start off, there's the fact that the sudden change from an image that has lasted since the 60s would not only be very jarring but also one has to take in the idea of transference of powers. Everybody knows Spider-man as a white guy, that's the way he's been written and drawn since the very beginning, so there would have to be some explanation as to why there is this very abrupt change in characters.

For example, superheros like the Green Lantern or Blue Beetle have seen a change in race, Green Lantern going from white to black and Blue Beetle from white to latino, because the powers were granted by some sort of item or gadetry and were thus able to transfer easily from one person to another. Spider-man's powers on the other hand came from a once in a life time bite from a genetically mutated spider. That spider never shows up again so one can only assume that it died soon after. If it didn't then there would be animals and other people who would have Peter Parker's powers which would utterly destroy the continuity of the original story.

And besides there are plenty of superheros who are "white" but are actually of a different species all together. Hawk Women, Martian Manhunter (okay so he's a little bit more green than white but his name, J'onn J'onzz, sounds French to me), Starfire, and Superman for example. Though of all of those examples only Superman got a movie, which is unfortunate. Because we could use more super-heroine movies that don't over sexualize women to the point of them just being objects to be stared at.

The point is if you really care or respect the comics as not only a source material but as a story that's been around probably longer than you have lived than you don't change things around like that with out some clever, plausible and interesting explanation.

Also, I am latino, and though I would like to see more latino superheros like Jaime Reyes as the Blue Beetle, I do not go around changing already drawn and published characters to fit my wants. That would be selfish and disrespectful to the original artists.

P.s. I don't think Glover would fit the role all that well. From what I've read in his bio here, he hasn't been in any other role other than comedy which doesn't fit in a superhero movie. Sure there are funny parts but he would also have to hit the dramatic cues at least decently and the intensity of the life or death action sequences as well which could be hard for a comedian.

Oh,please---characters get changed ALL the time in movies--same thing happens to superhero characters. Stop making up lame excuses and just admit you don't want to see a Black Spiderman on the screen, period.

They do and you know what, it often times pisses people off. Besides that isn't more insulting to say that a black or latino or asain or another race can't become heroes, can't become popular unless they take the place of an already established hero. You also ignored my comment that it has to be done in an interesting or clever way, which has BEEN done in the ultimate spider-man comic. SPOILER ALERT - Peter Parker dies and is replaced by Miles Morales, who is half African American and half Latino. I would be okay with that being done because it makes sense in an already established universe. Read the whole post and know your comic information before you go assuming that I "don't want to see a Black Spider-man on the screen,period.". I would like to but I would love to see other heroes of various races and cultures get their chance to shine before we go changing around characters that don't need to be changed around.

a spider decides to bite a black person instead of a white person. problem solved we can now have a black Spiderman. you're welcome.

That one in a lifetime spider has bit three different (caucasian) actors within the last 16 years.

His life has been rewritten multiple times.

His previously frail aunt his now played by an attractive(caucasian)actress in her 50s to make the films more appealing to a certain demographic

While your argument about staying true to the comics would make sense in something that stayed close to the source material(asking for frodo to be black in the lord of the rings for example) spider man movies have changed multiple things about the comics on each installment.

I dont think its out of line to ask them to reconsider the race of the main character since they have done so many changes to the source material already. ºººººººººººººº

Green Lantern going from white to black

what? when did this happen? Jeeze, get your facts together.

face palm. OP said the Green Lantern seen a change in race. This is not true. John Stewart IS a Green Lantern. He did not replace Hal Jordan. They both exist in the same world and are partners. A change in race would mean that Hal Jordan went from one race to another, but maintains the same identity, ala Electro in AS@, Kingpin in the original DD, Deadshot in SS. Those are a change in race.

The Green Lantern is a character. He didn't say Hal Jordan changed races, just that the character of Green Lantern changed races. When Obama was inaugurated in 2008, the President changed races. Same idea.
