Rising star ?
She's 30 years old. It's like the "Espoirs" (promising actors) in France. After a certain age, this kind of award is not exactly flattery.

As a French actress, it is kind of flattering to be nominated for an award that really only ever focuses on English speaking people…
Also, the award was meant to say that she's a rising star to English speaking people, I would argue she's already made it in France, but she's just beginning to get recognition and attention from international audiences.
I get your point, but to me it looks as if she was proposed for a regular Bafta nomination but there were too many actresses considered already and so she was switched to the promising young huns category. Kinda like Berenice Bejo at the Academy awards (which was really ridiculous, as she was not a supporting character at all in The Artist).

The rising star award isn't decided the same way that the other nominations are though. There's a small group of actors, directors, and critics that decide who will be nominated for the rising star award (it's a group of less than like 15 people, if I'm not mistaken) - whereas the regular nominations (supporting, director, etc) are voted on by an academy of a few thousand. Could the possibility of her not being nominated for Supporting have factored into the decision to nominate her for Rising Star? Sure, but I would lean more towards no since Lupita Nyong'o was also nominated for Rising Star and she ended up being nominated for Supporting as well.

I guess the English didn't get around to seeing Lea's magnificent performance in "Farewell My Queen." Nominating Lea as a rising star was silly. I guess the Bafta people couldn't resist having Lea attend, especially considering the gorgeous gowns that her stylist [sister Camille] dresses her in.

Specially as it's not she has never been in an english speaking movie- she was after all in Inglorious Basterds and such.
I checked the other nominees for the Rising Star awars- some of them are about the same age than Seydoux but the others are quite young -20, 21- which makes more sense imho.
