So when a republican is accused, they deserve due process according to right wingers.....

But not this guy right? Because he's not on your 'side', he's automatically guilty?

I'm a republican and I personally believe that victims of sexual harassment, assault, etc... Should report the incident to the police and follow due process. If not the police, start with Human resources. Regardless of my opinion of the accused, we have a legal system in place to protect the rights of citizens. It's not perfect, but it's the best we have.

That being said, Gov Cuomo resigned. He is not on trial and he's a public figure who's catching heat for alleged behavior. As far as I'm concerned, unless charges are brought up, this seems like a smear campaign. We see this from all sides of the political system and it's annoying.

"this seems like a smear campaign"

That remains to be seen. If he's not arrested or put through litigation, then I'd agree. What happened to Brett Kavanaugh, for example, was most certainly a smear campaign because once the weepy shrinking violets were done testifying against him you never heard a peep out of them again. The media also dumped them like a steaming turd.

That's fair. I think we all get so caught up in politics that we forget that everyone here is a big movie fan. We know what contrived stories are and we should be aware that most politics is just a big show.

reply

>> most politics is just a big show.

Wrong, most monopolistic corporate mainstream political reporting may be a show,
but of that ilk, most of that is done by private and opaque corporately funded networks
that are controlled and funded by self-described Conservatives who are really fascists
in the background disguising and pushing the Republican party to the American Nazi
Party using the same techniques the backers of Hitler used almost 100 years ago.

The American worker and middle class ought not be following these fascists because
the money they are using to fund their takeover government is the money the corporations
should have paying in taxes and salaries to the very people complaining about the
government not meeting their needs.

You don't go to criminals to demand justice.

What happened to Brett Kavanaugh was a SMEAR-AWAY campaign where in power Republicans abused their power and forced the FBI or conspired with corrupt FBI officials to ignore scores of validations and new complaints about Kavanaugh without any investigation at all. There are a myriad of reasons Kavanaugh should not be on the court, and thanks to the Republican SMEAR-AWAY campaign most of the public knows nothing about them.

They are complaining about there being a thorough investigation into the accusations. Showing their true colors again!

What puzzles me is why his own party would be doing this to him. Isn't he one of theirs? Don't they cherish every member of their party? Wouldn't they defend one of their own to the ends of the earth before letting them take the fall?

Or are we watching a useful pawn getting humiliated and cast out by the overlords once he is no longer useful?

Tucker Carlson has a theory on that subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZNng505VYM

You are either posting obscene one-liner stupid and unwarranted insults, or you somewhere come up with the most boorish of posts made of strings of lies. Constantly dwelling in negativity and muck with nothing positive to offer ... ever.

Sorry, I see and agree with your perception, but this is poor framing.

It is not that Republicans want their criminals to get due process, but they want whatever any Republican does to be UNQUESTIONABLE, (otherwise known as authoritarianism or fascism), that is, absolutely okay, dismissible, not forming any precedent or responsible to meet any previous precedent ... in short, Republican these days are OK with anything done in the vague name of or cause of Republicanism, which is hypocritical and authoritarian to the point of being fascistic and treasonable.

On the other hand, Republicans think whatever Democrats do, including merely existing to be subject to a public raving of a lunatic fringe group of brown-shirt thugs. Republicans feign a psychopathic hate for and demand conformation of those who disagree with them or even want to discuss issues openly, to standards they would never considering applying to themselves.

In short, were we an army and were we at war, the Republicans have become war criminals, and anything they do or demand is like an illegal order from an acting in-command. They have bent and broken the law so blatantly that for this country to continue as a Constitutional democratic republic the Republican party must be understood to be criminal and all their activities opposed and obstructed to an extent only previously comparable to the British Monarchy or the Southern Confederacy.

A revolution is afoot proxied by the Republican party against the Constitutional government of the United States of America planned and funded and begun by infiltrators to the original Republican party starting around the time of the close of WWII and amping up as they manipulated more and more control of the private and public sectors with their dirty money deals that now control the marginal flow of the US economy.

So, mainly, the point is the purpose of why the Republican leadership does what it does, and not really mainly about hypocrisy. The hypocrisy is just a tactic, a tool to keep their actions from being made visible and brought to public attention and discussion.
