Native American ancestry

What percentage of NA DNA do you suppose the average American has? I'm guessing more than her, but I really have no idea. Should she be expected to apologize for claiming her status, particularly when the Cherokee people she claims to be a part of have harshly admonished her claims.

It's problematic to define your ethnic identity based on a DNA test result, and it's also grossly oversimplifying things to try to boil it down to a percentage or fraction. For various biological reasons, DNA doesn't come down to us in perfect fractions.

Honestly, some tribes have a lot of official members whose DNA tests would show around the same or even less Native American ancestry than Ms. Warren does, because they only have to demonstrate direct descent from one person listed on tribal rolls from the nineteenth century, who themselves may have been half Native or less.

But it's not just about a percentage of DNA. It's about a cultural and social experience.

I personally feel anyone claiming anything negative or positive based on dna to be ridiculous, because anything a biological relative experienced is completely irrelevant to an individuals personal experience. Everyone should be treated and act the same, regardless of race or biological background. It's the only way to actually move forward as a society.

If any tribe has someone with the same or less Native American DNA than Warren, then they have members who aren't NA. Let's face it, Warren's DNA profile shows that she's one of the whitest women in America, at least compared to those whose family tree can be traced back in America to the 1800s.

My siblings and I have had DNA tests done and we show an average of 10%. Being African American, that's no surprise, yet we don't consider ourselves NA.

Bullshit. If her DNA result does not show significant Native American results, which it does not, then she is not Native American. This is science, fools. Stop trying to spin it your way.

This was a stupid thing for her to say. What was the point?????

She recieved special consideration in college.

You notice the idiots running Harvard have not demanded that she resign or give all her prestige and awards back to them, nor are they striking her from their record.
