It's problematic to define your ethnic identity based on a DNA test result, and it's also grossly oversimplifying things to try to boil it down to a percentage or fraction. For various biological reasons, DNA doesn't come down to us in perfect fractions.

Honestly, some tribes have a lot of official members whose DNA tests would show around the same or even less Native American ancestry than Ms. Warren does, because they only have to demonstrate direct descent from one person listed on tribal rolls from the nineteenth century, who themselves may have been half Native or less.

But it's not just about a percentage of DNA. It's about a cultural and social experience.

I appreciate your scholarship and good spirit, but we don't even need a DNA test; just look at her. She's of Euro descent, not AmerIndian, which is different than saying she doesn't have any AmerIndian blood. Her claim to be AmerIndian is as laughable as my saying that I'm a black gay female, which also exposes the idiocy of Leftwing "identity" politics.

You make a good point about being culturally from a particular race/ethnicity, but not genetically. I'm a white guy with some Abenaki blood. If I moved to, say, Japan and assimilated with them over the course of 10-30 years I could identify as a cultural Japanese, but not genetic. So Ms. Warren may be a cultural AmerIndian, if that's her choice; she's just not a genetic one.

Actually no AmerIndian is actually "Native American" (like the Australoids) in light of the fact that their ancestors emigrated from Asia via Beringia several thousand years ago. They're no more "native" than the offspring of white, Asian or black settlers; their forebears were just here longer.

At the end of the day there's only one race, the HUMAN race. And since Earth used to be one continent, Pangaea, we're all native to the same Earth regardless of the fact that the land mass eventually split into several continents (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangaea).

I've met people like her before when living in the Midwest.

Basically, you've got these loser white liberals who either are ignorant of their history, were taught to be ashamed of their European heritage, or are bored with the local town culture and think that "they have no culture," since good ole' Americana doesn't interest them. So, to make their boring lives more interesting, and try to impress people, they fake having an exotic heritage. Warren isn't the first, nor would she be the last to fake having a Native American heritage. Cherokee is the most popular tribe for people like this, because of how much inter-breeding they did with white people in the past 150 years. Other tribes have also been chosen to fake a heritage with, but Cherokee is the most common tribe you hear people faking a genetic link to.

Losers like these gamble on the idea that their idiot friends around them will remain ignorant and not question them, or won't be smart enough to do a background check on them; but that ruse only works so long before somebody calls them out. Chances are, such fakers have never even come within 100 miles of the nearest actual Cherokee tribe, nor would the actual members even know these fakers' names.

A good way to know if these idiots are faking is to ask them these questions:

Can you prove that claim?

Can you show me your family tree?

Where is the nearest tribe?

Do they consider you a member?

Do you even know any of their names?

Do you participate in their community at all?

If they don't have a definitive answer to any of that, chances are, they're lying.

Most people don't understand genetics and the DNA results. You can only inherit up to 50% DNA from each parent and sometimes it can be less. For instance, a person can inherit only 5% from a grandparent instead of 12.5%. A person can inherit no DNA from a recent ancestor since the percentage inherited drops with each past generation too.

Warren's DNA results show she did have Native-American ancestry 6-10 generations ago. Exact percentages can be deceiving (see above) which is why DNA results are referred to as only estimates.

Warren's paternal grandparents had a problem with their son's girlfriend not being racially pure which is why they eloped. Bigots exist. The story of a couple in love who decided to elope is part of her family's lore.

If someone has a little Native-American ancestry or any other "exotic" ancestry should they discount it by pretending it doesn't exist? It's a part of who they are and a part of their family history.

Five problems with your comment:

1) Family lore can be true, exaggerated or untrue. That doesn't change the fact that it's told and passed on within a family as part of tradition. Therefore fake or not is irrelevant. The point is that it was told and she believed it.

2) You're not in her family therefore you're unlikely to know intimate family discussions and you're relying on biased propaganda from political opponents. There is Native-American ancestry so the story can easily be true.

3) Trump complaining about a political opponent being dishonest is hypocritical, incredulous and comical considering he's told 13,435 false or misleading claims as of Oct. 14th and has repeatedly done unconstitutional acts some of which he's being impeached.

4) Your complaining about Warren is hypocritical since you have chosen to ignore Trump's lies, criminal behavior and misdeeds which are far more serious.

5) Old story. It has nothing to do with the issues. Let's move on.
