Thank you! I have nothing against her, but I do find it ludicrous the way she is presently being hailed as this divine acting talent. Queen of the Box Office I can understand, but that is something entirely different from actually being a good actor.
Going on the work she has done so far, Deepika Padukone is an average actress. She isn't terrible, but she isn't what I would call "one of the greatest indian actresses", as you have so rightly pointed out.
I haven't seen Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (apologies if the spelling is wrong), but as for the other two, she gave solid performances but I didn't find them to be exceptional.
I was outraged, in fact, when Deepika Padukone walked off with all the awards. I thought Sonakshi Sinha's performance in Lootera was far more deserving. I'm hoping Ms Sinha will grow out of her fondness for window-dressing roles in hero-oriented action flicks. Indian cinema will be far more interesting if she decides to really tap into the potential we got a glimpse of when she played Pakhi Roy Chaudhary.
But the actresses I am really impressed with at present are Kangana Ranaut and Anushka Sharma. I think they both have the potential to be game changers in the industry. Kangana has already established herself as not only a credible actress, but an individual performer who can hold her own independent of a big star or production banner's backing. And I think Anushka's time is coming soon too. Very interested to see what kind of work these two go on to do.
