Just my opinion but I don't get the praise or hype. Her direction seem flat and aimless at times. Her saving grace is that she has good actors that compensate for her direction.

She's a woman. They need to be helped, apparently.

She'll get lots of work for the rest of her career. And probably a few Oscar nods despite being pedestrian at best.

Sad but true.
What is worse is that there are great female directors like Bigelow.
Yet too many hacks like Gerwig get a free pass because of sexism.

Very good director. She made an old story like Little Women feel fresh and interesting and gave every actor space to make their mark.

I was very suspicious of Little Women but ended up being pleasantly surprised. I feared she was going to turn it into a woke-fest but she actually rendered a fairly traditional tale and I liked the film quite a bit.

I haven't seen any of her films yet but so far, they all sound very derivative and uninspired to me. My gut feeling tells me that within a couple years, she'll quickly be forgotten and swept under the rug, just like all those other over-hyped female directors like Sofia Coppola and Ava DuVernay. She seems like a flash-in-the-pan.

She has only directed 3 movies, so it shouldn't take long to watch them and make an informed opinion. It kind of sounds like you have already made your mind up about her though.

I'm just sick of the media going nuts over every female director after just one or two films. Far too often, the ones they go gaga for, turn out to be nothing more than flash-in-the-pan, one-hit wonders (or they just sell out to go make shit like Wonder Woman or Mulan). She may be great, but it's hard to tell with the vast amount of female directors getting more acclaim than they deserve just because respek wahmen.

look though your film collection and find favorite movie. note which ones that are direct by female.

then go through list of most acclaim movie of all time: film with most oscar / that gross most moneys / film that people talk about and quote most. then again note how many that are direct by female.

yes you wont find many.

woman excel in front of camera by lacks leadership to make great film. their are exception but 99% cannot lead great film. if you see female director today then most are their for to appease woketard.

I never cared for her acting career, but I think she's a wonderful director.
