Her acting anti-method...

She has no technique. No instruction, or received base for projection. She is being called a pioneer to a new breed of city actors. Her acting is no work and has no effect. It exists purely in the affirmative imagining of the viewer: she is on camera, on the screen; she must be acting, playing the character. She defeats the artistry of acting as a craft. She is creative. But she is anti-work. Anti-industry. She is a natural on screen; but her aplomb is so anti-method. There is no work to her performance, if it can called that. Greta Garbo, though didn't care much for acting herself, generally regarded the most effective screen actress ever, must somewhere be kicking Minerva for her impassivity.

What do you mean? I am expressing my opinion. A.O Scott wrote something about her in the same breadth.

so let me get this straight. basically what you're saying is that you're an obnoxious twat.

Whatever works.

I think you are over-thinking acting. Shirley Temple mastered it when she was four-years-old, as they say.

Most people work really hard to make something seem effortless. I might have bought what you were saying when she was doing improvised dialogue in Mumblecore movies.

But take something like Arthur. While not exactly a high quality film. It is purely right out of the Hollywood factory. Which means there isn't much room for getting cute and creative. Yet she still brings those lines and that role back to her and the kind of actor she is.

Acting isnt just vanishing into a role. Its bringing a role to you. If she wasn't working hard, she'd have flamed out by now. But she's handling the "real" movies just as well.

What do you mean no technique do you mean shes like a female ryan gosling ? He has no technique he lets the movie fill in the blanks .He doesn't really act its just the other factors that make it look like hes acting . Is that what you meant by her having no technique ? Every actor has a technique thats the illusion its the trick. The best of the best know how to hide it they know how to mask it behind a subtle nonchalance.
The thing is you have to be that good because that subtle is is very very thin. You could easily be seen as a hack.People who do mumblecore can't act thats a fact theres no room for it.Greta's naturalness comes from her just being herself well thats easy.No technique needed for that maybe thats what you meant by her having no technique ?

Therefore we may call that art true at which does not seem to be art."
