Can she act?

I saw 'Arthur' last night, and surprisingly, enjoyed it quite a lot! However, Greta's performance - ugh! I thought she was terrible! I wanted to like her, because she is adorable and looked perfect for the part. She delivered every line almost exactly the same way...I don't understand why she was cast! I felt like they just pulled a bank teller (with little acting experience) off the street and stuck her in a movie! She made Russell Brand look like a very decent actor! I am just flummoxed. Is she good in her other movies?

Is she good in her other movies?
She's good at showing her titties. Watch Greenberg and Baghead.

It looks like she's going for that "quirky" thing like Zooey Deschanel wich kind of works but so far I've not seen her do anything else (seen her in Baghead, Greenberg & No String Attached). Who knows, she might get the chance to do a different kind of role at some point... so far I agree with you about the way she just does her lines like she's reading the script for the first time.

i thought she was amazing in Arthur, pretty much the only thing I liked about the Arthur remake was her otherwise watch the original.

I liked her in "House of the Devil!"

What I've learned about Greta is that she's not a trained actress. Her work in those "mumblecore" films were awful. She was all over the place. She's very bold and willing to take risks. In HANNA TAKES THE STAIRS, a movie I consider a waste of digital files, she takes off all her clothes. Noah Baumbach saw "something" in her. He worked very hard with her on her performance in GREENBERG and gave a decent performance. Many people were shocked how poor her work in ARTHUR was. The explanation I can come up with: the director didn't coach her. She needs to be worked with or she won't deliver. I'm curious how she'll fare in Woody Allen's film. He doesn't like working with actors. If she's not delivering, he'll do to her what he did to Annabelle Gurwitch: fire her.

I liked her also. She was natural and was good to see someone who isn't well known, get bored seeing the same actresses doing these kinds of movies. She was very natural and was actually believable as someone Arthur would fall for. I havent seen her in anything else but she did a good job in Arthur in my opinion.

If acting means playing diverse roles in varied ways, no. But if acting means playing yourself on screen, yes. Film acting is a funny thing. You really only have to be good at playing yourself, which I think is harder than it looks. And those whose persona works best on screen end up movie stars, ala Cruise and Roberts.
