shareWell in a court of law what you heard someone say would be called hearsay and not allowed as evidence. The reality is people should look at the actual evidence that was provided in the trial, to throw out random things you've heard or read after the fact is really ridiculous. Hell if you look at most stories written it says he was lynched... of course that ignores the fact that he was according to actual medical reports shot in the head. So already there are inconsistencies with reality and the common stories people read about it.
Now most people that are sickened by it look at the image of his body in the casket and assume that this was the result of the torture and mutilation that was perpetrated on him prior to killing him. If you just look at it, you would think he was brutally tortured in god knows what way... however, that ignores the fact that after he was killed he was dumping in a river in late August and not found for 3 days... if you took someone that was simply shot and dropped them in a river at that time of year in Mississippi you would get a body that looks as bad or worse than Emmett's. I'm not saying he wasn't beaten, he very well may have been... but to assume he was mutilated and tortured is conjecture and you could never tell given the amount of time the body was submerged in a river in the hot south. Frankly it is miraculous that by the time his body was found he hadn't been eaten by critters in the river.
At this point in time people making assumptions on what happened has gone beyond reality and gone into myth.
I don't know if he was tortured or butchered, but what I heard was the she finally admitted to lying. Not sure where I heard it though.
