The similarity between Michelle and the Kim Novak's character in Vertigo.
Not just the hair but the enigmatic style of the character.
For the clock tower seen in vertigo read the toothfairy castle scene with TeaTime.
Michelle brings as the director states a weird blend of goth and mary poppins to the role. A new star is born.

I thought the hair is a nod to the Bride of Frankenstein, at least when she is gothed out.
