I don't think a few psychopaths that can't separate TV from reality are a legitimate reason to turn down a role.
Nutcases have become so numerous on message boards, blogs and comment threads that they've lost their sting.
I think most reasonable adults can tell which comments are from a person that has their head screwed on straight and which ones are from delusional flakes and losers.
Nearly every successful movie or show eventually gets re-made, re-booted, copied or followed by sequels these days, for better or worse.
The key for the next "Buffy" will be making it different enough from the TV series (and 1st movie) that there's something new for the majority of the hardcore "Buffy" fans who aren't lunatics, and of sufficient quality that it can stand on its own for people such as me who rarely or never watched the TV series.
