But they can't hire a bright, shiny, truly talented actress (let alone one whose singing timbre transcends that of an empty toilet-paper roll), because that would go against the show's over-arching goal: to make Perfect Tommy look as perfectly perfect as perfectly possible. They're kind of in a bind, aren't they: Perfect Tommy deserves the most perfectly perfect meat-- err, mate-- known to man (but not woman, natch, those silly imperfect critters!), but a perfectly perfect mate might make his perfect perfectionism seem less perfectly perfect by comparison (i.e., no one shares the spotlight with Tommy, dammit!)-- and we can't have that, now, can we...?
