If he had used a stage name...

This guy would probably a chance at becoming an A-lister. He can easily pass as a white guy, has the talent and looks for a leading man in Hollywood. However, no producer/studio/director will ever cast a "Rami Malek" as a lead role in a major hollywood film. Not necessarily due to racism, but due to the fact that the majority of audiences are white and prefer watching white actors. It's just business. The guy will still have a successful career, but will certainly reach a glass ceiling.

So why not break the mold and make it with his own name? If everyone caves in to pressure progress won't be made.

Omar Sharif made it with an Arabic name and was one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Also, the issue is not with them being Middle Eastern. A lot of Arabs look white or Southern European because that's what they are. It's the culture war, that's the big issue.

This guy is of African. What is this passing crap. He looks the way he looks which I think is great. Love his voice .

That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard! People from all over the world watch American movies/tv-shows, especially now with online streaming. Where did you get the idea that the audience is mostly white?

I also don't think that it's the audience that is the problem here. If the quality and the acting is good, people will watch it no matter where the actors are from. The problem is with the producers and them thinking that the audience only want white actors.

I'm happy he kept his real name. It's about bloody time there was a change in the industry!!
