The Huston legacy continues

Four generations of great actors on film and/or television. Starting with Walter Huston, made famous by Walter's legendary son John, who was not only a great film director but performed as one of the most chilling human villains in movie history (see Roman Polanski's "Chinatown"). Meanwhile, two of John's kids, Anjelica and Danny, come into their own as critically acclaimed actors with their respective careers. And now their nephew Jack follows in their footsteps.

Probably the most long-lasting dynasty in Hollywood that I can think of, except for maybe the Coppolas.

What about the Redgraves (Natasha Richardson was one of them)? I don't really know anything about them, are they considered a great acting family?

reply

Drew Barrymore
John Drew Barrymore
Jaid Barrymore
John Blyth Barrymore
Diana Barrymore
John Barrymore
Ethel Barrymore
Lionel Barrymore

And that's just the family members with the Barrymore last name. Also in that family through marriage are Dolores Costello, (wife of John Barryore), Maurice CostellO and Mae Costello, (maternal Grandparents of Drew), all actors in that one family. That is quite the Dynasty. 112 years.

Did you really just ask if the Redgraves are considered a great acting family?

That family has produced arguably two of the greatest actors of all time. The matriach Sir Michael Redgrave was one of the great theatrical knights of the stage - along with Richardson, Olivier and Geilgud. And of course the most famous, Vanessa Redgrave. Oscar, Emmy and Tony Winner and according to Tennesse Williams and Fred Zinnerman one of the greatest actors of the last century.

Thats not to leave out the late Lyn, Corin, Natasha. etc.

So to answer your question - YES, they are arguably the greatest acting dynasty of all time - if by great we mean craft and not necessarily fame. The biggest difference between the Redgraves and the Hustons or Fondas etc, is that they are primarily of the theatre and just happen to also do films. But Theatre is where they truly shine.
