She better be earning as much as top males!

Over the past decade or so, I think the idea of a movie needing a major name attached in order to succeed has faded. While someone like Leo decaprio still commands a lot of pull, due to his strategic choice of roles, for the most part, an actor alone won't get me excited for a film...

With that being said for once and perhaps not since the golden age of film, I think actresses are beginning to take over. There are now some actresses that if they're attached to a film, I now consider it due to their involvement. And in my opinion Jessica Chastain is right at the top of the list

She is on fire lately with a lot of her movies being successful, financially or critically. Crimson Peak would seem like another haunted house movie but when I saw she was involved, I admit that it caught my attention a lot more.

She is easily the big time actress at the moment and I hope she's being compensated fairly

I understand that in the 80s and 90s that male actors, and i guess somewhat in the 00s, were obviously the big draws. And I can understand why Sylvestor Stallone would get paid more than Geena Davis in 1989.... but I guess my argument now is that I think CERTAIN actresses are becoming draws. No one goes to see a "Jessica Chastain" movie, that's not what i'm saying. I'm saying that her presence in a movie makes it seem MORE important than other actresses.

The Martian could have been any actor and I honestly believe that.

Crimson Peak is my best example. Replace Chastain with.....Olivia Wilde...and I guarantee you the movie makes half of what it made. It just seems more legit with her in it.

I agree. J-Law being paid less in American Hustle is ridiculous. No one went to see that movie because of Cooper and Bale. They went because of "david o russel" and "content". I think all three of them made the movie seem like a big deal so its depressing to hear she got paid less.

It took less than a full second of the thought of Olivia Wilde playing her role in Crimson Peak to make me cringe in disgust.

Tell them to get better agents who know how to negotiate.

Matt Damon obviously deserved to be paid more for The Martian. He was the STAR, in all caps and in shinning lights. But, she was sold to us as the female lead. She was out there on all the talk shows, spending weeks traveling all over the world to promote the movie and she deserves compensation for that. Whether she was the female lead or not, she got butts in the seats because she's a big name and was sold to us like she was a lead. She deserved to be making a lot more than the other supporting roles, like Jeff Daniels and Chiwetel Ejiofor, because of that. She didn't deserve to make as much as Matt Damon though.

I honestly don't know how much she actually "deserved" but it should be fair and take into account more than just her work on screen.
