Why didn't he just drop out of twilight ?

Even after the first film it sounded like he despised it. He knew it would hurt his career. Did they shoot back to back was he on contract ? Couldn't he have talked enough *beep* on the film to get fired lol. He's literally bashed the actors , the fans and the books. He sounds like he hates them and it's a deep regret .

Rob has never bashed the actors or the fans. You sound very confused. He said he couldn't identify with the character, which is not unusual, since he was a 21 year old man playing a 107 year old vampire. The books and the scripts were not well written. He has good taste, can't fault him for that.

As for the contract, they signed on for the first 3 films when they made the first film. Neither he nor anyone else thought they would ever make the sequel. They thought they were shooting a low budget vampire movie no one would see.

I've never heard him say anything that sounded like deep regret. Does he think they're great films? I highly doubt it, but I don't know anyone who thinks they're great films.

Well said. I think he handled that saga quite well. In every interview I have ever read or watched he has been very grateful for his fans and the opportunities these films have opened up for him. I also remember him mentioning at one time that he was aware that it would take about ten years for people to not see him as Edward and he has been trying very hard to overcome that stereotype.

And it looks like he has achieved that with LCOZ. Some critics didn't even recognize him.

Rob: 15 times on French news programmes. His face is a Greco-Roman marvel.

If you notice, they all criticize the script/material. Which is exactly what I said before. You can't link me to anything I haven't seen before.

Those comments don't represent hate, they represent reality. The scripts were ridiculous, the premise was ridiculous. What 21 year old man is going to buy into a vapid vampire/teen girl romance? None that I know. Of course he thought was it dumb, it WAS dumb. That's normal, for any sane actor.

Plus, Breaking Dawn, the worst of the bunch, wasn't even written when Rob signed on for Twilight. He had no idea how ludicrous the franchise would get. It wasn't until after that came out that he started really saying what he thought about it.

I can't blame him. Not only was the plot full of holes, it went against Meyers' own mythology and twisted characters into pretzels in order to give her the happy ending she wanted. Fans revolted at the time, in fact, the publishing of Breaking Dawn was the day the fandom began to fracture and led to its eventual dissolution.

Some fansites shut down for a week, following the publication of the book, because the comments they were getting from an outraged fandom were too hot to handle. Some lost so many members they never recovered. Rob's comments reflect what was going on at the time.

Rob was right. There must have been some other way to get the creepy baby out of her stomach. 😁

He was under contract for three films.

He didn't hate it, but he sure as hell saw Edward for the creepy stalker he was. That's why he played him so well. He didn't play Edward as a romantic hero, but rather as obsessed and deeply conflicted.

Twi fans laughed at what he said because so much of it was true.

$$$$$$ (and lots of it). He made tens of millions from this crappy franchise lol. Can't say I blame him either , I'd do the same thing. He is literally set for life.

He is set for life and free to make now the films he wants. I'd say was a wise decision.
