I never thought I'd say this.

I actually miss the Backstreet Boys being on the charts. Music has been so bad since around 2004, that I'd prefer Backstreet Boys to be popular than pretty much every other pop artist on the charts now.

BACKSTREET ARE BADASS,BRO...BUT MORE TO YOUR POINT...THE PROBLEM IS...THE INTERNET BROKE MUSIC...CHARTS MEAN NOTHING NOW...EVERYTHING IS SCATTERED...WITH THE ONLY THINGS TO EVER GET ANY ACTUAL "RANKINGS" BEING CONTENT OF THE SCROLL AND CLICK OVER PROMOTED OVER STRATEGICALLY ENGINEERED TO BE "CUTTING" AND "NOW" VARIETY. More than that, the internet killed the music industry & the mechanism for fostering/promoting new talent/artists who dare to go against the grain & try something new. There are still artists out there doing that....if you know where to look. Unfortunately they get lost in the ocean of vapid cookie-cutter sameness that characterizes most "popular" (ahem) "music" nowadays.

As much as I enjoy being online, the internet has broken a lot of things.

BSB over them though.

reply

BSB always felt like the poor man's NKOTB to me.

reply

Did you know, originally they were called Kids New On the Block or KNOB for short.

True story.

Everybody.....rock your body 🎵

Get down, get down and move it all around.

Music in 90-th - early 00-th was so good. And now its just crap. Even top megastars like Adele, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Billie Eeilish, Ariana Grande cant make good songs.

reply

I love 90s music. The last good decade for music.

reply

Taylor Swift swept the top 10 chart because she DOES make good music. What kind of shit do you listen to?

reply

She has only few good songs. And it was years ago since she had good hit song. Why on earth Americans are so obsessed with buying her albums is beyond me. Her last few albums are so boring. Its like the same one boring song on repeat. Same with Beyoncé.

reply

Have to disagree with you about Adele. She's the only mega-star nowadays that I think has any real talent that still makes music closer to what I grew up on.

reply

This is why I still like BSB

reply

It wasn't even the brotherly love as much as singing acapella, mostly in key, right after doing a tribute to Aaron.

I do feel badly for Nick that they never had their spat resolved.

reply

Yes, that is sad when a family member passes, before feelings are resolved and issues are leveled. Fate can cruel. Plus that is the second sibling he lossed.

reply

you just lost your heavy metal bona fides

reply

I didn't say they were good. I'm just saying that I'd rather them than the shit popular music now.

reply

Boomer comment.

Great new music is being released all the time. You just liked the record industries spoon feeding you music to consume.

Go search out new artists of the genres you like. Everyone is being published now due to Spotify and businesses like CD Baby and Tunecore.

reply

reply

As bad as modern music is, Backstreet Boys were garbage. The "boy band" faze and "bubblegum" craze in late 90s I would argue was the "jumping the shark" moment.

reply

I think just about every era of popular music over the last 60-70 years has had their various "jumping the shark" moments.

The 70's disco era had "Disco Duck"

The 80's hair metal era had Poison & Winger

reply

I'm not saying they're good, just that they're better than popular music now.

AMEN
I think music has recovered somewhat since then , but that was probably its darkest hour.
In the UK there was nothing else .
No rock Radio , or country or soul or dance or goth , whatever you were into
It was bunches of 5 pretty boys dressed in white suits doing synchronised miming or nothing!
Simon Cowell has been doing his damndest to keep it like that too .

Luckily with so many options these days people arnt limited to local radio & tv
