What movie convinced you Tatum is a good actor?

I'm not saying he's a terrible actor, but he's Always the same. Maybe that works for Bruce Willis, but not for many others.

Johnny Depp BECOMES his role.
Gary Oldman BECOMES his role.
Channing Tatum STAYS Channing Tatum. Just like Keanu Reeves STAYS Keanu Reeves.

So IMHO Channing is perfect for quite some sequels to GI Joe and Step Up, but not for much other movies.

The first time i saw Channing was in the comedy SHE`S THE MAN, i like what he did as the boy with some insecurities about women, but very secure as the star and captain of the soccer team.
The second movie was THE EAGLE, i like the way he portrayed MARCUS AQUILLA, the Roman Centurion, who was depressed because of his father death in the British Islands, where he commanded the Ninth Legion that disappeared in a battle with the local tribes.
I like also STOP LOSS,THE VOW and DEAR JOHN and of course, STEP UP and MAGIC MIKE where he show his wonderful dance skills, too. And i love his work as an action hero in WHITE HOUSE DOWN.

For me Channing is a great combination of an eye candy, actor and dancer. And i wish he can sing, too. 

I like him too in the comedies 21 & 22 Jump Street.

21 Jump St convinced me he can do comedy. This seems to be his strength. I haven't been convinced yet that he's a good dramatic actor

I like his dramatic work in THE EAGLE, STOP LOSS and A GUIDE TO RECOGNISING YOUR SAINTS and many people are saying that Channing did an excelent job as the Wrestler Mark Schultz in FOXCATCHER.

I don't think I can comment on whether he's a good actor as I haven't seen many of his movies yet...but I do think he seems to be one of the most versatile stars around....

Let me explain...on a recent girlie night out the convo turned to current stars, when channings name came up he was universally liked but for very different reasons

one girl thought he was soulful/romantic/sensitve actor and the perfect romantic lead, but one thought the complete opposite that he was great at dark/intense/brooding, characters with barely contained violence !

Another girl thought he was one of the funniest actors working today, while another talked about his physicality, that he really looks like he's the one doing all the stunts so is believable in action roles and that its so refreshing to see a man who can really dance who actually looks like a real man (not some wimpy metro half man/half child dancer)

interestingly not one of these girls mentioned his looks/body as the reason for liking him so clearly the guy has got some kind of acting appeal !

that convo intrigued me, which is how I ended up on this board...so am starting to watch some of his movies to see what they meant
