Not really, I'd consider that expression to mean he was getting into a situation where the outcome was unexpected and by lucky happenstance he was spared. But Miley to her credit has always been honest about her skankiness and no one would have believed she was marriage material. He must be a little fucked up himself to even let the relationship go to engagement, he saw a train wreck and involved himself in the matter and then left the train wreck, that is a better description of the circumstances.
