One of the better Horror directors to break through in recent years.
His 'Amateur Night' segment from V/H/S (2012) is one of the better horror shorts around and his last two feature length films are great and show some real promise.
The Ritual (2017) & The Night House (2020) are both amongst the best horror films we've got in the last 5 years. Bruckner's tension building is brilliant and this is being coupled with some solid characterization and sleek modern cinematography. He's on something of a roll here and it'll be interesting to see what his Hellraiser film will be like, I do have my concerns regarding it being straight-to-video (HULU), however Bruckner has shown himself to be wholly capable of making a great horror film.
He's slipping under the radar a bit I feel, with all the hoopla around Ari Aster, Robert Eggers and Jordan Peele. Not to say those 3 do not deserve recognition, just that they're something of a holy trinity at the moment hogging all the spotlight.
