Draws a line in the dirt?

In both Ong Bak 1 and The Protector, there is a scene where Tony Jaa draws a line in the dirt in the middle of a fight. What does this mean? Is this a common custom? Some form of taunt? Does it mean, like, "Bring it on" or something? Does anyone know?

It's Tony's way of saying "I'm not responsible for what happens to you if you cross that line". :)

"If you cross this line you had better be prepared to kill me" - At least that is what Benicio Del Toro said in The Hunted (paraphrasing)

It's supposed to be spacing in martial arts, so he knows what his range is using those weapons, which he of course ends up blowing off when he jumps and flips all over the place.
