Saddens me, unparalled fighting bogged down by garabe scripts.
Jaa martial arts is probably as exciting as Ive seen since Li's Fist of Legend and before that Lee's Enter the dragon. Face it muay boran/thai can be brutal, and that frankly what you want to see in action movie. But good God, he'd almost be better off just doing demonstrations for 2 hours then some of these scripts. Ong bak probably his best, can be really painful to watch but seeing him aerial in that tight space and some of the other moves he does lets you slide on this one.
But then we get protector, nobody cares about your blanking elephant, that was the stupidest concept, they killed my elephant let me go get revenge. Jeez if he used in a bottom of the barrel hollywood script, change it to they kill his father or something it would be instantly better.
Ong Bak 2 is where i draw the line; the first 2/3rds were shaping up to be easily his best written and best overall movie. Interesting story, great characters; but then as only Jaa can do it, the rest of the movie happens and i was left shaking my head of what could have been. Clearly they were setting it up for a sequel, but they just ended up with a mess.
I dont want to knock the guy, and especially dont want to offend thai culture, im fond of it , but but this is just unprecedent waste of talent, when your stories make a seagal written movie look like an oscar contender for best screenplay, that is when you need to step back and just say woah. I find it hard to believe that Jaa cant get some decent scripts with the void left by li and to a lesser degree chan; id almost say hes doing this films intentional and maybe he actually thinks they are good in terms of story.
