Wasn't he supposed to be in an Ed Sheeran video a few years ago, but it fell through for some reason? I'm happy that he finally got to do one.

Are the other people in this video celebrities, too? I don't recognize anyone else.

I think that was supposed to happen around the time he was playing Turing. Someone (Weinstein?) told him he'd come off as too frivolous when he was in Oscar contention.

Wasn't it Michael Jackson that made this morphing famous in , Black or White". I know very little about music vids.

It was Godley and Creme who invented the technique. They used to be in a band called 10cc. Then they made a few records as a duo before the "cry" video in 1985 , for which they came up with the morphing concept, launched them into a very lucrative career as music video Directors.

MJ's Black or White came out in 1991. But yeah probably more people saw his video than "cry" which was only a hit in the UK I think.

I remember 10cc! In my first-year English class in university, my professor used the lyrics of "I'm not in love" to illustrate a literary device in which what is said is the opposite of what is meant. I loved that song!

And I just watched the Cry video - I remember that song, too. They still play it on the radio now and then. It's exactly the same as Benedict's video.

Gosh that makes me feel old because I remember when that technique was originated by Godley & Creme on the vid for "Cry."

ETA. I just read that the Elbow video was directed by Kevin Godley (of Godley and Creme).

I have to say I think it is great that he is in this video!

I think music is a very important part of his life (he seems really inspired by a wide range of different kinds of music) and of course Sophie's life as well. Both he and Sophie want their children's lives to be immersed in music as well - a recent tweet came up from a teacher of a baby/toddler music class in Hampstead saying that BC was in a "Monkey Music" class with Kit just a day or so ago) and Sophie has also been quoted as saying that she wants their children to be enriched in music and theatre as part of their everyday life.
