Movie star looks, flat lifeless actor.

There seems to be a big push trying to turn this guy into a leading man with dismal results. I've seen 3 of his leading role performances (In Secret, Dangerous Year, Davis) and they are flat and lifeless most of the way. He reminds me of Pacino but lacks his intensity, passion and energy. He's probably the Andy Garcia of his day, another good looking actor who underwhelmed in leading roles. Try as they may Issac seems only capable of stretching so far. Ryan Gosling is the most recent case of this. Looks help but it wouldn't hurt to have a little talent to go along with it.

Check him out in Agora, Ex Machina and Drive. He's really good.

I disagree, he totally disappears into his roles: WE, Drive,...Davis, etc - it took me a minute to realize that this was the same actor. He just hasn't been in anything too commercial - Star Wars should broaden his fan base.

A Most Violent Year was a flat and uninteresting film. He may not have risen above it, as Chastain did, but he is not responsible for it, either. He's been excellent in everything else I've seen him in including Ex Machina which I just saw. I am very surprised to read a post like this about him.

reply

Maybe to you it was. I loved A Most Violent Year and thought Isaac should have been nominated for Best Actor.

reply

Incredibly off base. He's immensely talented and the string of high profile roles he's getting only goes to spite your statement. Amazing up and coming actor.

Movie star looks, flat lifeless actor.

I find it just the opposite. I don't find him attractive at all but hot damn, he is one heck of an actor! I wish more men in Hollywood had his acting chops. The guy is amazing.

reply

Completely disagree. I think he's one the truly talented young actors working nowadays. Just check Inside llewyn davis, Drive, Ex Machina, Most Violent Year... The guy is amazing and hot as hell. Also a fellow central american. 

Everything I've seen him in, his performance comes off like an Al Pacino impression (Show Me a Hero, Ex Machina, A Most Violent Year). Anybody see him do something else?
